The US Nationals is a non-ranking regatta scheduled in place of the 2022 North American Championship, cancelled because of the pandemic.

U.S. Nationals Sunday, Jan 23 AM Update
Message from the Governing Committee and PRO:
Well, Mother Nature has sent us a curve ball. We sailed Lake Monona today, and it’s sailable with the snow, but the current temperature does not allow for racing. The Governing Committee intends to proceed with the regatta. We have to investigate alternate sites to continue the regatta. We have sailors proceeding to both sites to evaluate them and report. We ask that everyone stand by, stay put, and we will have another update at 4 PM CT.
U.S Nationals Update: Skipper’s Meeting for 23 Jan Postponed Until 11 AM CT
Due to predicted low temperatures, the Skipper’s meeting for Sunday, January 23 will be postponed until 11 AM CT with racing to begin at noon. The Skipper’s meeting will take place at the Olin launch site on the ice.

The 2022 U.S. Nationals has been called ON for Lake Monona in Madison, WI, January 23 – 29, 2022. There’s incoming weather and we are hoping to sail as much as we can on Sunday and Monday. Green Lake is a possible back up site.

Walled Lake in Novi, Michigan is no longer under consideration as the site for the 2022 U.S. Nationals. Safety, launch, parking, and course size were factors in that decision. Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin is the primary site. Two ranked sailors are inspecting and sailing the lake this morning. Weather will play a factor in the decision to hold the regatta. We are waiting for a report from a professional weather forecaster. Racing is still scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 23 at 10 AM local time. Next update is Friday, January 21, at 2 PM CT/ 3 PM ET. Thank you for your continued patience.

We have two sites under consideration, the primary site of Walled Lake, Novi, Michigan and alternate site of Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin. We need more time to look at incoming weather and work through the details of a smaller venue at Walled. Racing is still scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 23 at 10 AM local time. We thank you for your patience. Scouts continue to search for regatta ice in northern Michigan and Ohio. We have one confirmed site in the Madison, WI area, possibly two, with a possible back up site just north but with chances of snow during the week.
We will have an update tonight, January 20, 2022, by 8 PM CT/ 9 PM ET.

- January 14, 2022, 7 PM ET: Early registration deadline for early entry fee. Registration is online only.

Cancellation of the 2022 North American Championships: U.S. Nationals Called ON
The IDNIYRA Governing Committee earlier announced plans to decide by November 22th the status of the 2022 North American championship. The Governing Committee has agreed that continuing changes, challenges, and uncertainties relating to the pandemic make it apparent that holding the regatta in 2022 is not in the best interest of our class members. Therefore the 2022 North American championship is canceled.
However, based upon the success of last year’s non-ranking U.S. Nationals Championship, IDNIYRA Governing Committee has decided to endeavor to hold another non-ranking American Championship in the same timeframe. Central Rear Commodore Rob Holman will soon release Notice of Race for the U.S. Nationals.
