Scoring a DN Regatta

The DN Regatta Scoring software developed by Paul Goodwin offers a way top score iceboat regattas using a computer program designed specifically for the purpose. Other scoring programs are available, but none have been found to offer the speed and reliability of Paul's program.

Written back in the mid-80s, the program does not have the mouse driven interface people have come to expect. However, once you get past it's ugly exterior and score a few weekend races with it, you'll find a very useful tool that will save a lot of time.

Please download the DN Regatta Scoring Program and follow these steps to get it set up and running on your computer.

Installing the DN Regatta Scoring Program

Use the following link to download the Windows Installer version of my program. Run the installer and it will put all the files in will handle all of the following:

  1. Install all of necessary files in the proper places
  2. Create a "DN Regatta Scoring Porgram" program group in your Start menu
  3. Create a "DN Regatta Scoring Porgram" program group on the desktop
  4. Notify Windows of how to uninstall using the Control Panel, like all good Windows programs should.

Note: If you have been using my program and have regatta files on your computer, rename the old program directory (C:\DN to C:\DN-OLD). Otherwise the new installation could write over your old regatta data files.

Note #2: The program files are in a directory C:\DN. In that directory you will find a "readme.txt" file with some instructions on running the program. You will also find a good tutorial that will have you up and running in no time.

Note #3: The program always prints to a text file on the hard disk in C:\DN\LIB called "REGATTA.TXT". Whenever you print, copy this output into a new txt file named something clever so you can find it later. There is a handy link to this file in the DN Regatta Scoring Program group on the desktop.

Note #4: If your adventurous and try the web file output, it will write to a file in C:\DN\LIB called "REGATTA.HTM". There isn't a handy link to this file, you'll have to get to it through MyComputer.

Regatta Scoring Tutorial

Here is a link to a short tutorial that will lead you step-by-step through scoring a small regatta (6 boats and 5 races). After that you should be set to put it to the test on your own local races.
