The Strat Hendrie Trophy is awarded to the winning boat on the first weekend of each new season. It is one of the most impressive of the DNIYC of Detroit trophies, and is a model DN consructed of brass, and housed in a presentation case.
The conditions on Lake St. Clair weren't the best, with bumpy ice, 70% snow cover, and drifts up to 5" deep. But the wind built to around 15 MPH, and a nice tactical course provided some great racing. The spot we settled on for the course had jams on both the left and right sides, so most sailors opted for taking a double tack to sail up the middle of the course. This led to some great practice, with lots of tacking to make things interesting.
Ron Sherry sailed well, holding on to the lead in every race, even though Paul Goodwin
had slightly better boat speed. Maybe there is something more to Rons winning streak
than just boat speed, hmmmmmm...
