With a lousy weather forecast the regatta started off with a black cloud hanging over the event. The few sailors who came to the lake were faced with shifty gusty wind, and blinding snow and freezing rain as registration closed. The race committee waited for a break in the precipitation, but ice still formed on goggles and sail windows. After the second race, conditions started to improve, and by the fifth race the precipitation had stopped entirely. Two fleets sailed together due to the small turnout, which allowed the race committee to get the official races completed quickly.

After taking extra runners back to the launch, and getting the scorers off the ice, John Harper and Paul Goodwin battled through a series of match races. The die-hards in the group finally came back out for an afternoon of scrub racing. With good visibility and winds of 15-25, there was some great racing. By the end of the day, Jan Gougeon had tuned his boat like a fine instrument, and could probably be crowned "King of the scrubs". With 5 official races, and 7 or 8 scrub races, everyone went home weary and sore.

Plans are to meet back at the lake tomorrow and see if the weather gods will let us get a second day of racing in.
