2002 Maine State DN Championship

Well it happened. The long awaited and prestigious Maine State DN Championship Regatta was held Sunday February 24th 2002. Many other sites were studied closely the week approaching this event. I really believe there is something magical about Chicawaukee Lake as once more this playground proved best.

Light and variable winds from the north greeted us pitside at 8 am to slowly clock to the east by noon as the last race was finished. Three courses were set and moved during this event with much help from the racers. During the 6 races run I judged there to be an equal amount of both pushing and hiking. The DNrs raced on hard snow ice with some thin hollow shell and black ice.

Iąd like to congratulate Luke Buxton for performing so well in a borrowed boat. Well done Luke! John Bianchi deserves a high five too, he having been on hiatus for a season or two.
