DN Worlds Update: 19 Jan @ 1:50 PM CST

Conditions in some of the WI sites have deteriorated because of the warm weather and we are evaluating other possibilities. We are looking at Trenton, Ontario as a possible site. Please check back for the next update, tonight, at 7 PM CST (8 PM Eastern). Thank you for your patience.

DN Worlds Update: 18 Jan @ 8:20 PM CST

Begin heading west because there are 3 sites under consideration in Wisconsin. At this time there’s nothing being considered east of Houghton Lake in Michigan.

  • Lake Superior at Red Cliff (near Bayfield)
  • West end of Lake Mendota in Madison
  • Lake Winnebago at Oshkosh

Lake Superior and Mendota will be sailed tomorrow and evaluated. The continued warm weather has proved challenging in determining the best possible site.

There will be another conference call on Thursday, January 19 and our goal is to make the final decision by 1:45 PM CST (2:45 PM EST).

DN Worlds Update

The Governing Board, Rear Commodores, and other Western Region members held a telephone conference call this evening to discuss possible regatta sites. Though it’s more than likely there are good sites available in the Western Region, we are asking ice scouts across North America to continue to report conditions to their Rear Commodores. At this point, the primary site continues to be Wisconsin but we do have options in other regions.
Next update will be Wednesday, January 18, 8:30 PM CST.

Rope Halyard Proposal

The Rope halyard Proposal passed overwhelmingly.  Normally the effective date would be March 31 2017, however, the European Governing Committee specifically asked when they submitted the proposal that it be effective Jan 1 2017.  The Specifications Management Agreement make is clear that  if the Governing committee that requests the vote specifies  the effective date be Jan 1, that that overrides the March 31 date.  This is reflected in the minutes of the 2016 European Spring Meeting.

Therefor the effective date for the rope halyard proposal is Januay 1 2017 and rope halyards are legal for the 2017 Gold Cup and North American Championships.

Para Aramid Tiller Clarification

It has come to the attention of the IDNIYRA  and European governing committee that the 2014 vote to allow para aramid in the construction of tillers was conducted incorrectly.  It was only sent to ballot in north America and not in Europe.  This violates the specifications management agreement.

The IDNIYRA Governing Committee and European Governing Committee, with the concurrence of the technical committee   have determined that the original vote allowing the use of Kevlar in the construction of tillers was not a legal vote.  Therefore this specification change is reversed.  Any member that constructed a tiller of para aramid  (Tradename Kevlar) shall notify the governing committee of their respective continent  so that tiller may be registered.  Any such registered tiller will be allowed for the 2016-17 season.

Since this was originally a North American proposal, the IDNIYRA Governing Committee will resubmit this proposal to a  membership vote in the fall of 2017.  Any tillers that were built between 2015 and now will be grandfathered in for this season, if they are registered.

DN Western Regional Regatta Photo Album

A pair of photographers were on Lake Monona shooting the 2017 DN Western Region regatta. They have posted their photo set on Flickr and are encouraging us to download and use as we like.

“My wife and a I had a great time Saturday and Sunday Jan. 7-8 watching the DNs race on Lake Monona and taking a few photos.  I’ve put 26 photos up in a album on my Flickr page, here is the link:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kdmeyer/sets/72157676991377862

Possibly somebody will enjoy a picture of themselves;  the images are full-resolution and free to download with my compliments.  Managed to catch both champions including #183 with quite a bit of air under one of his blades.

Thank you, we met some nice people and enjoyed being spectators.”

Worlds & NA Insurance Verification

Registered skippers, if you have not provided insurance verification for the 2017 Worlds & North American regattas, please make certain you either bring a copy of insurance to registration or email a scanned copy or photo to Regatta Chair Mike Miller prior to January 20, 2017.

Mike Miller email: miller.m@mchsi.com

As stated in the Notice of Race: “All participants shall provide proof of $300,000 personal liability at time of Registration.”

Click here to open and check the list of registered sailors to see if you need to bring a copy of your insurance to registration or email a scanned copy to Mike Miller.

We would hate to have people scrambling at the last minute on a Saturday night trying to secure insurance information. Please plan ahead!
