2024 DN North American Championship Called ON for Waconia, MN

REGISTER FOR THE 2024 DN NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
We are pleased to announce the primary site for the upcoming DN North American Championship ahead of schedule.

The primary site for the championship will be Lake Waconia in Waconia, MN, and we will continue to scout ice in Minnesota for backup sites.

We want to thank Eastern Lakes Commodore James “T” Thieler and dedicated ice checkers Bill Bucholz, Jeff Roseberry and Paul Chamberland on the East Coast for their efforts. While the championship was originally slated to take place in the east, the unpredictable weather conditions and a lack of big ice have led us to select a location in Minnesota.

We want to thank Minnesota sailors Mike Bloom and Sam Bartel for their extensive windshield time and ice scouting over the last few days.

Consider arriving early to compete in the oldest ice yacht regatta in North America, the Northwest, a 3-day regatta. Where else can you sail a regatta for $16 and see Skeeters and Stern-Steerers? Registration will open tomorrow,  Information here.

C) b) When not held in conjunction with the Gold Cup, the North American Championship regatta is held during a specific week, beginning on a Monday and ending on Friday, with Saturday as a reserve day. If 3 races in all fleets have not been completed by sundown on Friday, racing shall be continued until sundown on Saturday.

Registration for the 2024 DN North American Championship event closes on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 8 PM Local Time. Don’t wait until the last minute – secure your spot now!

Registration Details:

• Online registration is mandatory. Visit https://www.idniyra.org/2024-north-american-registration/ to complete your registration process efficiently.
• It’s crucial to submit proof of $300,000 liability insurance by the deadline. Without insurance, participation won’t be possible.

Insurance Submission:

• Send your insurance proof to proofdn@gmail.com This step is essential for your eligibility to compete.

Site Selection Update #1 for the 2024 North American Championship

Last night, the IDNIYRA Governing Group met to discuss the site selection for the 2024 North American Championship. A weather system is currently moving across the eastern part of the United States. Despite the usual challenges, we remain committed to finding the perfect location for the championship.

We are sending scouts to explore potential New England and Northern Minnesota sites and are monitoring conditions in Northern Michigan. On Tuesday, we have a conference call scheduled with a weather service to discuss the long-range forecast for the regatta. At present, we do not have a primary site secured. However, we are working hard to finalize our decision and plan to announce the chosen venue on Wednesday night, February 21, 2024.

Your assistance in this process is invaluable. If you have any information regarding potential regatta ice, please do not hesitate to contact your regional commodore. Stay tuned for further updates as we navigate through this process together.
